Pelvic Floor Therapy:
Understanding the Pelvic Floor: A Key to Health and Wellness
Shh… It’s time to break the silence. Women are rarely taught about the vital role of the pelvic floor, let alone how it changes with age. The truth is, pelvic floor dysfunction is common, but it's not an inevitable part of aging. The statistics speak volumes:
1 in 3 women will experience pelvic floor issues in their lifetime.
50% of women over 50 struggle with pelvic organ prolapse.
84% of women will report symptoms of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause by 7-10 years if left untreated
Yet, too many women endure these challenges in silence, assuming they’re "just part of getting older." But you don’t have to suffer alone.

“Michelle’s calm presence will make you feel comfortable and at ease”
“Deciding to reach out and work with Michelle Mintz was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I initially went to her for issues with my pelvic floor, but what I found upon our appointments was so much more. Firstly, she is the most patient, empathetic health care provider. She listens and genuinely cares about all of your health concerns and what happens in your daily life. Even when dealing with more intimate issues, she strives to make sure you are comfortable and feel safe. You come to quickly understand why the practice is called “Inner Connections,” as she helps point out how what is happening in life impacts our body and health. She’s given me tools to help not only to set a routine with my pelvic floor stretches and treatment, but also helped with my anxiety and stress management to help me navigate my body’s stress response and to live an all-around healthier life. Our sessions are always calming and helpful! I cannot recommend her enough; she will help change your life for the better and guide you on your journey through full-body healing! I know I absolutely could not have made the strides I’ve made without her help, guidance, and support—book your appointment now, you’ll be glad you did. Thank you, Michelle! “ (L.P.-Novi,MI)

Occupational therapists (OT’s), at Inner Connections Women, specialize in helping women regain or improve their ability to perform everyday activities and functions. In the context of pelvic floor occupational therapy, the emphasis is on how pelvic health impacts daily life; how pelvic health issues may impact a person's ability to engage in daily activities, such as work, hobbies, self-care, and social interactions. OT’s take a holistic approach that considers the broader picture of a person's life and activities. OTs work with patients to address not only physical symptoms of pelvic health issues, but also emotional and psychological factors that may affect pelvic health and overall well-being.
Occupational therapists provide interventions to address these functional limitations. OTs design individualized treatment plans that often include a combination of exercises, lifestyle modifications, and adaptive strategies.
Pelvic floor occupational therapy can be particularly beneficial for individuals with chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, and other conditions that affect daily functioning.
